The travel diaries: China - Guilin day 2


Our room at the hostel was so cute, it even had this table and pillows so we could sit by the window!
For our full day in Guilin, we decided to visit Yao Mountain first thing in the morning. It has the first tourist cable-way in the province and breathtaking views.

What's the first thing you think about when you see these?



It was such a thrilling experience: we were hanging in the air as we tried to absorb as much of the scenery as we could. Mountains, mountains everywhere and as far as the eye could reach!

We came down from the mountain and went to visit the old town of Daxù. Picturesque, streets sizzling with the weight of Time, as the town dates back to the Song Dynasty, making it over 1000 years old.



The structure on the water is a restaurant. Given the proximity to the river, Daxù is famous for its fish dishes.


Tiny fishes and shrimps with vegetables and boy oh boy, it was yummy!



One of my favourite places in town: this is on a bridge and as soon as I saw the fudog and the mountain behind it I started looking for the right angle to shoot!


Thought we were done sightseeing? Naaah, time to visit the Reed Flute Cave, closer to Guilin this time!


Inside the cave it was humid and cool. And what beautiful sights we saw... In my mind, I even called it the "Cave of Wonders", because of the shapes and lighting effects.



There was even a special show inside the cave and lots of "oooooh" and "aaaaaaah" from the cheering crowds. Definitely worth the visit.





After the cave, we walked around for a while and then went back to Guilin to visit the Solitary Beauty Peak.

Seriously, how can you get over this view?


Watching people feed the fish via baby bottles, whaaaaaaat?!


Time for a night cruise on the river. Funny how the use of lights and colour can make a hill, rock or whatever stand out!...

5 fashion things having a job has taught me

Ever since I finished college and started working, some changes have happened in my fashion life. I am the youngest member of the staff, this is my first (almost) full time job and the environment, although casual and laid back, requires a certain discretion and poise on my part. #1 Working at a school and having to deal with the parents as well as with the kids, cleavage/see-throughs/extremely short shorts and skirts are frowned upon. The first two are just rude in a school environment. As for skirts and shorts, I wear them a lot during winter (with tights!), but it becomes tricky in spring. I only wear them when it's to warm to consider anything else. Harem/aladdin pants are also acceptable. Just remember: the shorter the bottoms, the more coverage you should have on your top, going for a boat or round neck tshirt. #2 Balance your makeup. I struggled a little with this one. Colour wishes

With the months passing by and the light of summer holidays shinning brighter at the end of the tunel, i want colour. And light fabrics. I want the warmth of spring as it it slowly transitions into summer and shorts and high-heeled sandals. As always, I'm in love with the same brands. And I'm also trying to get away from my comfort colours and turning to brighter vivid tones, as yellow and red. OYSHO 's bikinis are lovely as always and it's going to be tough pickig just one. ZARA has had major improvements over the last seasons, making it hard for me to buy just what I need. The dress seems so fresh and the pants make me look slim and taller. Plus, anything with an oriental print is a winner with me! I'm addicted to bags; my parents have said this for years and I know it to be true.
